Course: Get Help With a Child’s Behavior Issue

8. As parents, finalize your expectations

2 min

Now that your teen has had a chance to review your draft and give feedback, now it’s time as parents to discuss your child’s feedback and make any necessary changes.

Finalize your Expectations

Review your teen’s feedback and decide what changes you will make, if any.

As you consider deciding whether to make changes your child wants, consider these points:

  • What is leading you to consider making the change? Is it anxiety, guilt, fear, etc.? Or is it out of logic, increased understanding, or new information?
  • Is it a non-negotiable issue that your child is asking you to change?
  • Did your child simply say they didn’t like a specific idea, or did they offer alternatives that would still address the importance of the rule?
  • Was your child threatening in their feedback?
  • Are you considering changing the rule or consequence simply because you don’t think your child will accept it?

Make the changes you feel comfortable making on your draft.

Add and Assign Each Expectation to your Child in the Trustyy App

Now it’s time to add the Special Expectations you agreed on into the Trustyy app, and to assign them to your child.

For each expectation you add, don’t forget to also define any incentives (consequences or rewards).
